Director Michel Bay promised to bring out the best of the war between humans and machine with his directorial venture Transformers: The Last Knight and going by the trailer it appears he may be spot on. The explosive first trailer of the live action thriller has mesmerised fans with a thrilling storyline that is not only action-packed, but also has an exciting plot to narrate.

The most shocking factor of the two-minute trailer is the fate of Optimus Prime – the leader of the Autobots. The trailer begins with Anthony Hopkins' voice narrating the importance of sacrifice to achieve victory. The narration compliments well to the majestic view of the flying Dinobots in medieval England where a fleet of army are fighting until their last breath. The sight of a sword with blood dripping off it is a symbolic gesture of what fans can expect from the movie.

Transformers 5 The Last Knight
Optimus Prime's lifeless body drifts in the cosmos in new Transformers The Last Knight trailer Paramount Pictures

The war between "flesh and machine" will be epic in the fifth Transformers film as it is still not clear whether Optimus Prime will return as a hero or a villain. In one scene, the leader of Autobots can be seen drifting in cosmos lifeless with Hopkins saying "Optimus Prime has left us".

While, many assumed their robotic hero to be dead, he returns with a bang by the end of the trailer. However, he is not there to help Cade Yeager in the man vs machine war, but is seen trying to kill Bumblebee and the former. The struggling engineer from the Age Of Extinction will join hands with Isabela Moner's Izabella – an orphan girl who befriends a tiny lost Cybertronian named Sqweeks – and Josh Duhamel to fight the epic war with the rest of the Autobots.

"It has been said, through the ages, without sacrifice, there can be no victor. Two species at war, one flesh, one metal. Optimus Prime has left us. One hundred billion trillion planets in the cosmos, you want to know. Don't you, why they keep coming here," the voiceover says in the trailer.

In the fourth instalment, Optimus went into the cosmos to seek answers from the Creators. And according to the official synopsis of The Last Knight, he will discover that Cybertron is destroyed because of him and he needs to find an artifact and to bring it back to life. The artifact is hidden somewhere on Earth.

The film explores the mythology of the Transformers universe with the fifth sequel by digging into the history of the robotic world's fascination with Earth and how the two worlds have been at war since primitive times.

The official synopsis reads:

"Optimus Prime finding his home planet, Cybertron, now a dead planet, which he comes to find he was responsible for killing. He finds a way to bring the planet back to life, but in order to do so he needs to find an artifact, and that artifact is on Earth."

It remains to be seen, how and why the lifeless body of Optimus was drifting in space and if the Creators are responsible for his new lease of life which they are using against humans and the Autobots.

Transformers: The Last Knight releases in theaters on 23 June 2017.
