Patti LaBelle's Old Nicki Minaj Remark Resurfaces Amid Nephew's Trump Dispute Claims
Patti LaBelle's years-old Nicki Minaj remark has resurfaced as nephew Byl Holte makes separate, unverified claims about a 2019 family dispute

Patti LaBelle has returned to the online spotlight for two separate reasons, after a resurfaced clip showed the soul legend invoking Nicki Minaj's name on stage in 2015 while her nephew and adopted son, Byl Holte, separately made allegations about a family dispute involving President Donald Trump.
There is no evidence connecting LaBelle's years-old remark about Minaj with Holte's allegations. The two episodes occurred years apart and have only recently drawn attention at around the same time.
Holte, who is LaBelle's biological nephew and has been described as her adopted son, took to X to allege that a family dispute around Christmas 2019 contributed to a lasting estrangement after LaBelle had already told him he needed to leave the home where he said he had lived for 12 years.
Holte claimed that when relatives began discussing what they saw as the danger posed by Trump, he challenged them and the disagreement escalated. However, his own account indicates that LaBelle's decision that he should move out preceded that political exchange.
Patti LaBelle's Nephew Makes Claims About 2019 Family Dispute
Holte said in his post that politics became a flashpoint during the breakdown of the family's living arrangement. He alleged that, during the discussion, he questioned why he should be afraid of Trump when, as he described it, his own relatives were putting him on the street.
'Why should I be afraid of Trump when you're the one who just made me homeless?' Holte recalled asking.
Holte then alleged that members of LaBelle's family 'instantly attacked' him and threw him out. His use of the word 'attacked' is not further explained in the post, and IBTimes UK has not independently established that a physical confrontation occurred.
Importantly, Holte's account does not establish that LaBelle decided he had to leave because of his support for Trump. He wrote that she 'had just informed' him that he needed to move out before the political argument took place
LaBelle has not publicly responded to Holte's latest account. IBTimes UK cannot independently verify his allegations about the circumstances surrounding his departure from the home or subsequent family estrangement.
Holte went further, alleging that the fall-out later became permanent. He claimed that LaBelle objected to him publicly discussing their relationship and described the resulting estrangement as a 'LIFETIME BANISHMENT'.
'My punishment for using my 1st Amendment right this way was LIFETIME BANISHMENT,' he wrote, adding that LaBelle is no longer speaking to him and alleging that others in her circle have also stopped communicating with him.
He framed the conflict as ideological as much as personal, criticising Democrats and linking his experience to what he described as restrictions on his freedom of speech.
Those statements represent Holte's interpretation of the family dispute. The available evidence does not independently establish that his political views caused the estrangement or LaBelle's earlier decision that he should move out.
Holte has since said he is stepping back from politics, although his latest comments continue to include criticism of Democrats. With no public response from LaBelle to the latest allegations, his account remains one side of a private family dispute.
Patti LaBelle's 2015 Nicki Minaj Remark Resurfaces
Separately, an older video showing LaBelle mentioning Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus during a confrontation with a concertgoer has resurfaced online. The clip dates to 18 September 2015, during a LaBelle concert at the Hard Rock Casino Vancouver. Contemporary reports from the time corroborate the incident.
During the performance, LaBelle invited audience members on stage, but the interaction became confrontational when one man began removing his shirt.
'Don't you dare, not on my stage!' she said before telling the audience that she was 'not Nicki Minaj or that little, uh, Miley.'
The remark was made in the context of LaBelle objecting to the concertgoer's behaviour on her stage. There is no evidence that it concerned Minaj's politics or that it had any connection to the family dispute Holte has described from four years later.

When the man continued posing on stage, LaBelle called for security to remove him. 'Get off of my goddarn stage, b—h,' she shouted before demanding that he be removed from the building.
Contemporary reports said LaBelle later apologised to the audience for her language. She explained that she was a Gemini and that things sometimes came out of her mouth that she tried to control.
The footage has periodically resurfaced online since the 2015 concert. Its latest circulation comes as Holte's separate allegations have renewed attention on LaBelle, but timing alone does not establish a connection between the events.
LaBelle has had other widely reported interactions with audience members during her career, but the Vancouver footage stands on its own as an account of how she responded to one concertgoer's behaviour that night.
The original incident also predates the current political context surrounding Holte's allegations by several years. Any attempt to interpret LaBelle's reference to Minaj through the lens of the 2019 Trump-related family dispute would therefore go beyond what the available evidence supports.
Online, some users have nevertheless discussed the old footage alongside Holte's more recent claims. Those comparisons are subjective, and neither episode establishes anything about the other.

What can be verified is that LaBelle mentioned Minaj and Cyrus while confronting a concertgoer in Vancouver in September 2015. Contemporary coverage documented the exchange and the man's removal from the stage.
What can also be established is that Holte has now publicly alleged that a separate 2019 family disagreement involving Trump contributed to a broader rupture with LaBelle and other relatives.
His allegations about the family's motives and subsequent estrangement have not been independently verified, and LaBelle has not publicly responded to the latest claims.
Crucially, Holte's own chronology says LaBelle had already told him he needed to move out before the political exchange he describes. His account therefore does not establish that his support for Trump caused that decision.
The resurfaced concert video and Holte's allegations may have put LaBelle's name back into online discussion at the same time, but there is no established Patti LaBelle–Nicki Minaj–Trump connection linking the two episodes.
