Hundreds of people got down and dirty at the annual Maldon Mud Race in Essex to raise money for good causes. Originating in 1973, the race sees competitors wading through knee-deep mud on the bed of the aptly-named River Blackwater. AFP photographer Daniel Leal-Olivas was on hand to capture the action as competitors from as far away as Australia got bogged down on the 400m dash.
