The Powerpuff Girls reboot: First look at Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup revealed
The Powerpuff Girls — Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup — are back on Cartoon Network. The Emmy Winning series will return this spring with a brand-new reboot about the three girls juggling school and saving the world before bedtime.
The first clip from the premiere episode titled, I Am Not A Princess, has been officially released. The video features a villain named Manboy, who has vowed to turn the city of Townsville into the city of Mansville.
The promo opens with Manboy declaring, "This town needs to get back to its manly roots, and that means destroying this hippy carnival, so be it. Unless there is somebody here man enough to stop me."
The men of Townsville says, "Naaah, we are good!" but then we see the Powerpuff Girls and Buttercup says, "This day just got interesting." She goes up to Manboy and says, "If you are looking for a fight, old Buttercup can satisfy your need for a beatdown." But he just laughs and sarcastically remarks, "Why don't you go play with your dolls, Princess!" But Buttercup gets mad and beats him down and says, "Don't Call me Princess!"
In the new series, Blossom is voiced by Amanda Leighton, Bubbles by Kristen Li and Buttercup by Natalie Palamides.
The world premiere of Cartoon Network's Powerpuff Girls will happen at South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin, Texas. Directors Nick Jennings and Bob Boyle will appear at an outdoor film screening on Monday, 14 March, to introduce the new series.
The original show was created by Craig McCracken that ran from 1998 to 2005. The cartoon also inspired a 2003 feature film, a 10th anniversary special and a re-imagined CG special.
The original series followed the lives of sisters Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup who are accidentally created in a lab by Professor Utonium. They save Townsville from evil doers such as Mojo Jojo, the Gangreen Gang and Him. Blossom is the self-proclaimed leader of the trio, Bubbles is the cute one and Buttercup is the toughest one.
