A comfortable 2-0 victory over Colombia in the fourth quarter-final saw Brazil seal a berth in the semi-final of the men's football event at the Rio 2016 Olympics. Barcelona star Neymar opened the scoring in the 12th minute before Luan doubled the lead in the final quarter of the match to help his side seal a comfortable win.

Portugal's hope of making it to another semi-final in less than two months was crushed as they suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Germany. It would have been another triumph for Portugal as they recently won the Euro 2016 after defeating France in the final.

Brazil and Germany are the two strong sides in the tournament and they will face competition from Nigeria and Honduras as the latter two made it to the last four of the men's event following their victories over South Korea and Denmark respectively.
