The men's hockey event in the Rio 2016 Olympics has reached the semi-final stage where four teams will compete against each other. The two favourites coming into the tournament, hockey giants Netherlands and Germany have lived up to their reputation, reaching the semi-finals while Belgium and Argentina are the other two teams to qualify.

The presence of Belgium in the last four shows us that attacking, attractive play has a place in the current scenario especially with a number of teams keen to sit back and defend. The only South American team in the tournament, Argentina have surprised many with their brand of play, and were not expected to make it this far in the tournament.

While the European giants Netherlands and Germany will be expected to contest the final, the Belgians and Argentinians should not be taken lightly considering the talent and resources at their disposal.
