Overview

Dolgopolov fought his way to the semi-finals defeating Fabio Fognini, 6-1, 6-1 in straight sets on Friday. The Ukrainian managed to deliver a total of 12 aces throughout the game to send the tournament's third seed out of the tournament.

Meanwhile, World No 3 David Ferrer recovered from a first-set deficit to beat wildcard entrant Thomaz Bellucci in the last eight. The Spaniard went down 4-6 in the opening set but bounced back against the Brazilian to win 6-3, 6-3 in the subsequent sets.

The winner of this game will face a Spaniard in the final as Pablo Andujar faces World No 1 Rafael Nadal in the other semi-final.

Dolgopolov and Ferrer have faced each other on eight times on the court in the past and the Spaniard has emerged victorious on seven occasions. However, the former's victory against 31-year-old last came in a clay court in 2011.
