In episode 9, Olivia decided to go back to Jake and live a new and much less complicated life filled with love. He also wanted to go beyond the Fitz-Vermont drama and escape the rude reality of her father Rowan Pope.

However, fate intervened and it is unclear whether Liv will be able to come out unscathed from the unexpected danger she finds herself in now.

The premiere episode will start off from where the mid-season finale ended.

Show creator Shonda Rhimes meanwhile, hinted that Liv may stay kidnapped for more than one episode.

"It's definitely not going to be a one-episode, short little thing," Rhimes told TV Line.

However, she also added that the premiere episode is her favourite.

"Probably my favorite episode that we've done, ever. It's my favorite episode that I've written, of anything that I've written. But it's probably our favorite episode that we've done ever."

The premiere episode 'Run' is written by the show creator and directed by Tom Verica.

Scandal Season 4 returns on ABC on Thursday, 29 January.
