Chelsea's Hopes of Reuniting Mourinho With Spanish Defender Next Summer Dashed

Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos wants to finish his career at the Bernabeu - dashing Chelsea's hopes of signing the vastly experienced Spanish international.

Ramos was understood to have fallen out with president Florentino Perez amid discussions over a new contract, sparking rumours of a move to the Premier League.

Both Chelsea and Manchester City were credited with an interest but the 27 year old wants to finish his career in his homeland and has dismissed suggestions over a falling out with Perez.

"I'll repeat, our differences were nothing to do with the contract. I've got three years here and I'm relaxed and I'm not looking to leave," he told AS.

"I feel privileged and if I could, I would retire here.

"I'm not going to talk about the differences between us because it's a personal matter, but I can say we have a great relationship. I'll never forget who the president here is and I know he's in charge."

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho fell out with Ramos during their time at Real but was understood to be willing to put their relationship aside in order to make the move happen.

With David Luiz out of favour and Chelsea captain John Terry still to agree a new contract, Ramos would have been the ideal candidate to lead the back four next season .

Having earned a century of international caps and made over 300 appearances for Real, Ramos is among the most successful defenders in Europe and has won three La Liga titles and the Copa del Rey across eight years at Los Blancos.

However, with 17 career red cards, Ramos' career has been overshadowed by his disciplinary record but nevertheless is an important part of Carlo Ancelotti's squad.

Ramos is expected to be part of Spain's squad at next year's World Cup, a tournament which would represent his fifth successive major finals appearance.
