Shakira and Gerard Pique Welcome Son Milan
Shakira and footballer Gerard Piqué have announced the birth of their first child, a boy by the name of Milan.
The 35-year-old Colombian singer and the Barcelona player welcomed their son at a hospital in Barcelona. He weighed 6lbs 6 ounces.
"We are happy to announce the birth of Milan Piqué Mebarak, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué," the star wrote on her official website.
The Unicef goodwill ambassador said: "The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification.
"Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth."
The Hips Don't Lie singer was soon overwhelmed with congratulatory messages from fans and celebrities.
Cesc Fàbregas tweeted: "Congratulations to my friends @3gerardpique and @shakira, welcome Milan Piqué Mebarak! Looking forward to meet him! Hugs to all 3!"
Sergio Aguero said: "Welcome, Milan Pique Mebarak! Congrats to @Shakira and @3gerardpique! What gift would you like for the baby: a mic or some cleats?"
Shakira went public about her relationship with 25-year-old Piqué in March 2011. She previously dated Antonio De la Rua - the son of former Argentine president Fernando de la Rua - for 10 years.
