Overview

England take on Slovakia in their first World Cup qualifier clash, which will also double up as Sam Allardyce's first game in-charge of the Three Lions after the former Sunderland manager took over from Roy Hodgson. The former manager stepped down from his position after a disastrous Euro 2016 campaign, which saw England crash out in the round of 16 stage at the hands of Iceland.

Allardyce will be keen to get his reign underway with a win and has made a number of changes to his squad. Theo Walcott is the most notable call-up after the Arsenal striker was ignored for the European Championships, while Jack Wilshere and Ross Barkley have been axed from the squad.

Meanwhile, Luke Shaw has been released from the squad as the manager is not keen to risk a player, who is returning from a long-term injury. He has returned to Manchester to continue his rehabilitation. Kyle Walker has recovered from the knock he suffered during Tottenham Hotspur's game against Liverpool and will resume his position at right-back.

Slovakia put on a good show against England when they faced each other during the group stages at Euro 2016. They grabbed a valuable point after stopping Jamie Vardy and company from finding a way through. Martin Skrtel, who will start at centre-back, will come up against some of his former Liverpool teammates.
