Southampton are reportedly targeting a move for Paris Saint-German midfielder Yohan Cabaye to replace Morgan Schneiderlin, who is closing in on a move to Manchester United.

According to the Mirror, the Saints have identified the unhappy French midfielder to replace his compatriot. Ronald Koeman is keen to bring in a quality replacement as they aim to better last season's eighth place finish in the Premier League.

Schneiderlin is on the verge of sealing his dream move to Old Trafford in the coming days, and Cabaye is on top of the list of replacements eyed by the Saints, with Feyenoord midfielder Jordy Clasie and Lille's Idrissa Gueye also on the club's radar.

The French international [Cabaye] has made his intentions clear after struggling to nail down a regular place under Laurent Blanc, with Marco Verratti and Blaise Matuidi ahead of him in the pecking order. He had admitted during the previous campaign that he will discuss his future with the club in the summer.

Arsenal have been long time admirers of the former Newcastle United midfielder and even tried to sign him before PSG made a big money move to take him to Paris.

According to the Mirror, Arsene Wenger is back on the trail of the midfielder, but apart from the Gunners, the Saints will also face competition from rivals West Ham United and Crystal Palace, who are hoping that the lure of London will persuade him to ignore the south coast club.

Southampton are in danger of losing more stars this summer, as apart from Schneiderlin, right-back Nathaniel Clyne is also reportedly on the verge of sealing a deal with Liverpool in the coming days, according to ESPN.
