The first Star Trek Beyond character posters have been released by Paramount Pictures just days after the studio dished out a new trailer and several promo posters. The latest posters feature newcomer Sofia Boutella as Jaylah and Karl Urban as Dr Leonard "Bones" McCoy.

The official Star Trek movie Twitter account calls Jaylah "the ultimate soldier". Besides this, Boutella's alien character is a total mystery. Boutella was in the 2015-released Kingsman: The Secret Service and is set to play a role opposite to Tom Cruise in Universal Studios's The Mummy. The movie will release in the US on 9 June 2017.

Director Justin Lin has revealed that the world premiere of the movie will be held at Comic-Con in San Diego on 20 July. In an interview with Forbes, Lin was asked what it means for the Star Trek franchise with the crew getting separated from the Enterprise and each other in Star Trek Beyond.

"It means that anything can happen. I think that's what is so fun about being a part of this, with these characters and these other things, we can go anywhere and there should be no boundaries," Lin replied.

The third instalment of the rebooted franchise will see the return of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and John Cho. Idris Elba, Sofia Boutella and Joe Taslim are the new cast members.
