He is also being tracked by German club Wolfsburg, but Spurs will be hoping that their £15.8m offer will be enough to land the striker ahead of the Bundesliga club.

Meanwhile, striker Harry Kane is looking forward to playing in front of their fans for the first time this season, when Spurs take on Bundesliga club Schalke in what will be their final pre-season friendly before the Premier League gets underway on 16 August.

"We're back in front of our fans for the first time, we want to put on a good show and impress everyone and then it's all about West Ham next weekend," Kane said, as quoted on Tottenham's official site.

"I'm sure it will be a competitive game with two teams seeing where they are in pre-season. We've been training well, we feel ready and it should be good.
