Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric is the best playmaker in the Premier League according to Match of the Day pundit Alan Hansen.

The diminutive Croatian has been the catalyst behind Tottenham's remarkable run of form that has been characterised by a stunning brand of football.

Modric has been the focal point of Tottenham's free-flowing attacking flair and although some suggest Manchester City's David Silva is a more influential player than the Spurs star, Hansen begs to differ.

Tottenham are currently in third place following their scintillating 2-0 victory at Carrow Road, and are just seven points behind the two Manchester clubs with a game in hand. Hansen intimates Modric has been the spark behind Tottenham's recent brilliance.

"The Tottenham midfielder is a real, class act and in the role he plays, he is better than any other in the Premier League." Hansen told the Daily Telegraph when discussing Modric.

"It is a tribute to Modric that he has performed so well for Spurs this season having seemingly been set on leaving the club in the summer."

Hansen believes it is a testament to Modric's professionalism and peerless ability that he refused to sulk when he was denied his exit from Tottenham in the summer.

"Many players would sulk when denied a move, but he has got on with it and been superb again." The former Liverpool captain explained when discussing Chelsea's failed attempts to prise Modric away from Tottenham in the summer.

"They say the ability to find time and space is the hallmark of a great player, Modric has weeks of it when he is on the ball."

Despite increasing speculation regarding further interest in Modric, Harry Redknapp recently suggested the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea had no chance of signing the Tottenham talisman in January.
