Tottenham Hotspur could yet make an eight signing of the summer after renewing their interest in Real Madrid defender Fabio Coentrao.

The north London club have already spent in advance of £100m on new players but it seems manager Andre Villas-Boas still believes there is one area of the side that he needs to further strengthen.

Goal.com report that Spurs have once again opened negotiations with Madrid as they attempt to complete a deal for Coentrao who is believed to have informed the Spanish giants that he wants to leave in this transfer window.

The Portuguese defender struggled to hold down a regular place in the first team last season as Marcelo was often the preferred option for Jose Mourinho. Despite Carlo Anceleotti now being in charge at the Bernebeu it seems Coentrao has decided that he would like to move to pastures new.

Tottenham supporters have already seen an influx of new players arrive with Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Etienne Capoue yesterday being joined by Erik Lamela, Vlad Chiriches and Christian Eriksen.

But it seems there could yet be one more addition if Tottenham can convince Madrid to part with Coentrao. Spanish newspaper Marca believe that they are willing to let the 25 year old leave but they will seek a transfer fee in the region of £17m.

Coentrao has not featured in either of Madrid's league games this season and is seen by Villas-Boas as a far improved option to either Danny Rose or Benoit Assou-Ekotto.

The Cameroon international failed to impress his manager last season and reports suggest that Spurs will listen to offers for the defender as they attempt to ship him out before the transfer window closes on Monday evening.
