Tottenham are closing in on a move for Diego Perotti after the Sevilla winger confirmed that he is willing to move to the Premier League in January.

The Metro reports that manager Andre Villas-Boas is a huge fan of the winger and is willing to pay up to £8m to secure his services.

Tottenham have not been at their best this season, in spite of spending more than £100m last summer on more than seven players to replace Gareth Bale who went to Real Madrid. The 25-year-old was also linked with a move to Arsenal but with the Gunners looking at other targets, Tottenham have a free run on their man.

The winger has been plagued by injury problems over the past few months but is still regarded to be among the best players in the La Liga. His addition is likely to spell the end of Aaron Lennon whose niggling injuries have stunted his development and is more often than not on the fringes that rooting from a spot in the first team.

"A transfer is definitely possible in the winter market. I've not been playing well recently and I need to find my best form, but something could happen," he told the Spanish media in an interview.

Tottenham are currently seventh in the table, joint on points with Manchester United and will face Manchester City at the Etihad stadium on Sunday as they look to put in a title challenge this season.

Spurs have found it extremely difficult to score goals this season, scoring only nine thus far in the league and need to improve their attack if they have to have any chance of making it to May with a viable chance of winning the title.

A win against City away from home will give them some much needed confidence and will go a long way in proving their title credentials this season.
