As hurricane season approaches the shores of the United States of America, reports suggested that US President Donald Trump wanted to drop nuclear bombs into the eye of a hurricane. Trump, who is attending the G7 summit, has dismissed the stories with a short tweet.

Tropical storm Dorian is approaching the US east coast and could become a hurricane threat to coastal cities. The news about the tropical storm soon shifted focus to a "scoop" from news website Axios. The site claimed that Trump had discussed using nuclear weapons to combat hurricanes. The report suggested that Trump had asked Homeland Security and national security officials if this was a possibility.

According to a "behind the scenes" report from a source allegedly close to Trump, the president said "I got it. I got it. Why don't we nuke them?," during a hurricane briefing.

While Trump is busy at the G7 summit, a response to the news has appeared on his Twitter account:

The story by Axios that President Trump wanted to blow up large hurricanes with nuclear weapons prior to reaching shore is ridiculous. I never said this. Just more FAKE NEWS!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) August 26, 2019

The tweet claims that no such discussions or suggestions were made by the president and that the fake news report was "ridiculous."

White House representatives refused to respond when asked about the unusual news.

Trumps refusal to visit Denmark over the idea of buying Greenland seems to have many convinced that the president is capable of being very serious about ideas which may seem like a joke. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has taken the idea so seriously that they have a page dedicated to the idea.

The idea of killing a hurricane with a Nuke dates back to 1950s when a government scientist had suggested it to President Dwight Eisenhower, Axios claims.

NOAA has the question listed under frequently asked questions. The page talks about how the result of a nuclear blast would be devastating as the nuclear fallout would be carried over a large distance by the winds. At the same time, the blast would not even be able to change the category of the hurricane.
