BBC One EastEnders
BBC One's EastEnders beat ITV's Coronation Street to win the best soap award at the TV Choice Awards 2015 BBC

It was a triumphant night for the likes of EastEnders, Sheridan Smith and Broadchurch who were among the big winners at the TV Choice Awards 2015. Hosted at the Hilton Park Lane Hotel in London on 7 September, the evening celebrated the most notable talent that has appeared on British TV in the UK over the past year.

ITV dominated the winner's list with the second series of critically acclaimed crime drama Broadchurch scooping the drama series award, while the show's lead star, David Tennant, was named best actor for his role as DI Alec Hardy. Smith was recognised for her incredible portrayal as late TV presenter Cilla Black in Cilla, earning her the best actress award.

The BBC did, however, scoop the biggest accolade of the night with long-running drama EastEnders crowned the best soap, beating competition from main rival Coronation Street. Adam Woodyatt, who plays Ian Beale, accepted the award on behalf of the cast. Davood Ghadami earned the series its second award of the night after being named best newcomer for his portrayal of market trader Kush Kazemi.

ITV's other popular soap Emmerdale was also celebrating after Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Livesy, won the best soap actor award, while Alison King, who portrays Carla Connor, was named best soap actress.

The TV channel also triumphed in several other categories, with Simon Cowell's Britain's Got Talent winning best talent show and I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here scooping best reality TV show. Unfortunately, it was not the best night for Channel 4 with its staple soap Hollyoaks failing to win any awards.
