Police investigating historical sexual abuse claims at a grammar school in Manchester have arrested TV weatherman Fred Talbot.

Talbot, 63, was arrested by police on suspicion of three counts of indecent assault and four counts of inciting a child to commit acts of gross indecency.

He was being held in police custody for questioning.

The allegations involve pupils at Altrincham Grammar School for Boys. Police said they were keen to trace pupils who attended the school in the 1970s and 80s.

Talbot, best known for presenting the weather on a floating map of the UK on ITV's This Morning in the 90s, taught biology at the school during the period in question.

Officers raided the 63-year-old's home in Bowdon, south Manchester, in December.

DCI Koran Sellars said: "Since allegations were made to police we have made good progress with this investigation and with tracing and speaking to former pupils of Altrincham Grammar School.

"I am eager to trace anyone who attended the school between the early 1970s and 1980s who feel they may have information to assist the investigation."

Altrincham Grammar came under the spotlight for detectives after an investigation at nearby St Ambrose College in November, which culminated in a 63-year-old former teacher being held on suspicion of indecent assault and possession of indecent images.
