Singer-songwriter and Broadway composer Duncan Sheik has died at the age of 56 after suffering organ failure, a day after his family revealed he was receiving medical care.

'Duncan was a father, husband, son, brother, and friend. He will be remembered for his sensitivity, wit, intelligence, and depth of spirit he brought to those who knew and loved him.'

Duncan Sheik Was Hospitalised Days Before His Death

News of Sheik's death came shortly after his family revealed that he had been hospitalised and was in 'critical but stable condition.'

In a statement posted on his Instagram account on Wednesday, 16 September, his family said he was 'currently receiving medical care' but declined to disclose further details about his condition.

'Out of respect for Duncan and our family, we will not be sharing any further medical details at this time,' the statement said.

His family asked for privacy during what they described as an 'incredibly difficult time' and thanked fans for their continued love and support.

At the time, no diagnosis or reason for his hospitalisation had been publicly disclosed. His mother subsequently said he died from organ failure.
