Fear the Walking Dead season three is just weeks away from its premiere but casting news for Avatar sequels has sent zombie thriller's fans into meltdown as Cliff Curtis, who plays the lead Travis Manawa in the show, has signed for Avatar 2.

The actor will play a lead character in the upcoming four sequels of the high profile sci-fi project sparking speculation that his character Travis may die in Fear TWD season 3, Deadline reports.

The actor will join the original cast of the 2009 film, which includes Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington and Sigourney Weaver. The production for the sequel to James Cameron's epic science fiction will begin next year at Wellington's Stone Street Studios.

According to the website, the fear TWD actor will play "Tonowari, leader of the Metkayina, the reef people clan." The second Avatar movie will be released on 18 December 2020 with three other sequels lined up to releases during the Christmas seasons of 2021, 2024 and 2025. And considering the immense detailing of the highest grossing first film, it goes without saying that Curtis will have his hands full to concentrate on any other project.

In Fear the Walking Dead, Curtis' character Travis is slowly evolving as an action-oriented man trying to defeat the odds of the post-apocalyptic zombie world. In the latest trailer of the soon to premiere show, the former high-school teacher can be seen punching the men ruthlessly in order to save his family. Travis' latest evolution in the game of survival of the fittest is a stark contrast to his previous self who believed that goodness still prevails in the world.

While the trailer raised fans' expectations – as they saw their favourite character pulling a Rick Grimes in FTWD – his recent casting news sparked rumours he may die while saving his family from the ruthless army uniform-clad Mexican gangs just so he can join the highly-anticipated Avatar franchise.

Fear the Walking Dead season 3 premieres on 4 June in the US on AMC.
