Sony has released a new software update for the latest Xperia series devices, Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet, which are now available for purchase.

Earlier this month, a new firmware build 17.1.1.A.0.402 was certified for the Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet. This follows the current build, 17.1.A.2.69, which exists on both the devices.

The build moves from a template of 17.1.A.2.XX to 17.1.1.A.0.XX and is expected to bring some significant changes.

According to Xperiablog, Sony has started rolling out 17.1.1.A.0.402 firmware based on Android 4.4.2 KitKat for Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet.

The update is now available for HSPA+ and LTE variant of Xperia Z2 with model numbers D6502 and D6503, respectively, and for the LTE and Wi-Fi variants of Xperia Z2 Tablet with model numbers SGP521 and SGP511/SGP512, respectively.

There is no information as to what are the improvements the update brings along with but it was expected to add improvement in touchscreen sensitivity and performance enhancements.

Those who have not yet received the notification may check the update availability by navigating to Settings>> About phone>> Software updates>> System updates.

Here are the links to FTF firmware files for the aforementioned devices, users can flash these files on their devices manually. Users are advices to verify the model number of their devices and install file according to the model number.
