BET Awards air live on BET on Sunday from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles BET Awards/BET

Get set for an evening of exciting performances and some hot trends right off the red carpet of the 2016 BET Awards. As the countdown begins for the 16th Annual BET award ceremony that recognises the finest talents in the field of music, movies, fashion and more, here's everything you need to know including where and how to watch the event online.

The awards will be aired live on BET on Sunday, 26 June at 8 pm EST. Fashion lovers can also catch up on some hot trends by live streaming the red carpet event at 5.30 pm EST, before the actual ceremony begins. Alternatively, click here to watch the event live online on the official website.

The event that honours the best in African American entertainment is also known for showcasing fashion's highest moments. Last year's event saw songstress Rihanna donning a metallic blazer, while Nicki Minaj stole the show with her cut-out bodycon ensemble.

From glittering outfits to daring dresses, there's no holding back when it comes to the red carpet event of the BET awards, which this year will hopefully be no different with Nandi Mngoma hosting it live.

Last year's hosts, the Black-ish stars Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, are set to grace the stage. "On Black-ish we're a really incredible bottle of champagne. On the BET Awards it's like you take that bottle of champagne and you shake it up and you pop that cork," Ross had earlier told People magazine about hosting the event.

A star-studded line-up of performers was revealed on the official site. They include Young Thug, Jennifer Hudson, Erykah Badu, French Montana, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Tori Kelly, CHLOE X HALLE and Bilal, Bryson Tiller, Usher, Desiigner, Future, Janelle Monae and Alicia Keys.

A special performance by Stevie Wonder is also reportedly on the cards as he pays tribute to the legendary singer Prince – the second time since the 2016 Billboard Awards. Apart from this, Pulp Fiction actor Samuel L Jackson will be honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award and Grey's Anatomy cast member Jesse Williams with the Humanitarian Award.

The awards show, which will be broadcast live from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, is expected to host some of the top A-listers from the industry as presenters. Jamie Foxx, Taraji P Henson, Jussie Smollett, Deon Cole and Yara Shahidi, DJ Khaled, Gabrielle Union, Tinashe, Fantasia, Regina Hall, Jermaine Dupri, Snoop Dogg are some of the celebrities gracing the stage on Sunday night.
