An Air France flight from San Francisco to Paris was forced to divert to Canada following what the airline has referred to as an 'anonymous threat'.

The flight to the French capital, Air France flight AF083, was inspected by officials at Montréal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International airport in the wake of the scare. AP reported that the crew decided to divert as a "precautionary measure".

The plane, its passengers and baggage have been checked to ascertain the origin of the threat. Air France has said it is working to send passengers on safely to their destinations.

In immediate aftermath of the deadly attacks in Paris two French flights operated by Air France were diverted because of bomb threats.

France has been in a state of emergency since 13 November following the Islamic State attacks which left 130 dead.
