Overview

Andy Murray is coming to this tournament after a gruelling schedule, and is playing for the sixth straight week on the tour. The Scot is on a mission to make it into the top eight in order to qualify for the season ending ATP World Tour Finals in London.

The British number 1 has played 20 matches in the last five weeks and has won three titles, the latest being in Valencia, where he saved five match points to beat Tommy Robredo in three sets. That has seen Murray climb to number 5 in the world and a good showing in Paris will see him book a place at the World Tour Finals in London.

Murray, who is seeded eight in the tournament, is playing his first match of the tournament after being given a first round bye.

Meanwhile, his opponent, World No 28 Julien Benneteau, is coming off an easy 6-3, 6-4 first round victory over Yen-Hsun Lu. The Frenchman is yet to beat Murray in their four meetings and will hope to have a change of fortune this time around.

He will have the backing of his home crowd and can take advantage of the fact that the Scot is coming on the back of a gruelling few weeks on the tour.

Head-to-Head

Murray holds a 4-0 lead over Benneteau in overall meetings. The pair have clashed in three Master Series events and the Scot came out victorious on all occasions.
