Overview

World number three Andy Murray will be gunning for a place in the final of the Rome Masters 2016 when he takes on France's Lucas Pouille in the semi-final on 14 May (Saturday).

The Scot survived some nervy moments against David Goffin in the quarter-final, eventually winning 6-1, 7-5 saving three of seven break points. While the scoreline suggests an easy victory, it was a tough match with Goffin frustrating his opponent in the second set.

This is the first time that the duo are meeting on the ATP circuit but with the kind of form Murray is in, it will be tough to look past him to reach the final.

World number 52 Lucas Pouille, has made the last four playing just two matches so far. The Frenchman has had a solid if not spectacular season so far and his entry into the semi-final of a major event like the Rome Masters has got fans comparing him to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who had a similar run in 2008 when he stormed into the finals of the Australian Open.

He comes into the tie as the definite underdog but upsets have happened in the past.
