Arkansas Couple Charged After Girl, 12, Found Shaking in Bathroom Begging for Her 'Mama' Following Alleged Abduction

A 12-year-old girl was found shaking, her face pressed against a bathroom wall, after she was allegedly taken from South Carolina to an Arkansas home, where investigators say Brandon Lee Britten raped her. Britten, 31, and Sierra Dawn Britten, 28, of Independence County, now face a combined six felony charges.

Court documents allege the pair had been in contact with the child online for a month before Brandon Britten drove roughly 11 hours to collect her. The case has attracted widespread attention after law enforcement detailed the child's rescue in a sworn affidavit.

Alleged Grooming and Cross-Country Abduction

According to a probable-cause affidavit, the girl had been in contact with the Brittens over the internet and believed she was going to be in a relationship with a 15-year-old boy, with Sierra posing as his roommate.

Sierra Britten later acknowledged that nude images had been exchanged with the child and that she planned Brandon Britten's trip to South Carolina around her own work schedule so he could use the car to collect her.

Brandon Britten drove from Independence County, Arkansas, to Spartanburg County, South Carolina, where he allegedly abducted the victim on 8 September 2026. During questioning, Sierra initially told investigators she believed the girl was 18 years old, then later said she believed she was 14, according to the affidavit.

Investigators used Flock automated licence-plate cameras to track the vehicle back to Arkansas and identify the suspects. Spartanburg County authorities alerted Independence County deputies that the girl had reportedly been taken in a black Chevrolet Malibu, and investigators connected the vehicle to Britten.

Girl Found Shaking, Begging for Her Mother

Deputies went to the Brittens' residence and located the vehicle. After Brandon Britten acknowledged the child was inside, he was taken into custody, while Sierra Britten initially refused to identify herself and went back into the home, according to Independence County Sheriff's Lieutenant Zach Rawlins.

'Sierra, actively resisting, had to be physically removed from the home so the minor could be located,' Rawlins said. Deputies then found the girl in a back bathroom, her face and hands pressed against the wall, shaking. The child reportedly thanked the officer for coming to look for her and said she wanted her mother.

The girl was taken to the Children's Advocacy Center of Independence County for a forensic interview and medical examination, then placed with the Arkansas Sheriff's Youth Ranch before being reunited with her parents the following day.

Investigators say Brandon Britten took the girl into a bedroom and engaged in sexual acts with her after her arrival, while Sierra Britten slept in their young son's room. Evidence recovered under a search warrant of the home, along with the medical examination, corroborated the child's account, Rawlins said.

Charges, Custody and Contradicting Accounts

Brandon Britten faces charges of travelling for the purpose of an unlawful sex act with a minor, internet stalking of a child and rape.

Sierra Britten faces charges of being an accomplice to travelling for the purpose of an unlawful sex act with a minor, accomplice to internet stalking of a child and accomplice to rape, according to the Independence County Sheriff's Office.

Circuit Judge Kimberly Edington found probable cause for the arrests on 11 September and set bond at $1 million for each defendant. Formal felony charges were subsequently announced on 15 September.

Sierra Britten's account of the girl's age reportedly shifted during questioning, from an initial claim that she believed the child was 18 to a later claim that she believed she was 14, according to the affidavit. The girl was 12 at the time of the alleged offences.

What Happens Next

The investigation remains active and ongoing, with the Independence County Sheriff's Office saying it is working in cooperation with federal partners. The sheriff's office previously said it was working with its local FBI field office regarding potential federal indictments.

Neither Brandon nor Sierra Britten has entered a plea in the court records reviewed for this report, and it remains unclear whether either has retained defence counsel. Both remain held at the Independence County Detention Center on $1 million bond each.

The child has been reunited with her family in South Carolina, and no further public statements on her condition have been released, in keeping with standard practice for protecting the identity of a minor victim in an active sexual-assault case.
