The images arrived only weeks after the 33-year-old singer completed her Eternal Sunshine Tour and announced a step back from public-facing work. Her representative cited ongoing public scrutiny, while Grande later said the decision had been planned in advance and was not reactive or impulsive.

Alvarez's Portraits Trigger a New Wave of Commentary

Alvarez, who rekindled his relationship with Grandethis year, posted the portraits on Instagram this week with the caption 'purpose and value'. The photographs show Grande smiling in a red-and-white dress, with her hair pulled back, in a series of posed shots.

The pictures migrated beyond Alvarez's account and into Reddit threads and social platforms, where reactions ranged widely. One commenter described the clothing as giving 'toddler' styling, while another wrote, 'Why is she dressing like a 10-year-old omg ... please get her help.' Others objected to the commentary and urged Alvarez to disable comments.

Some users also focused on Grande's slim frame and made claims about her health. Those assertions remain speculation, as neither the photographs nor social-media observations provide a medical basis for diagnosing Grande.

The attention comes as Grande and Alvarez's rekindled relationship becomes more public. They first dated in 2015 and 2016, remained friendly after separating and were seen together this summer.

Grande made the reunion Instagram official in August, and at her final London concert on 1 September she altered the 'Thank U, Next' lyric about Alvarez to 'I'm tryna make him my last'.

The latest comments echo a cycle Grande confronted directly in April 2023. In a TikTok video addressing concern about her body, she said people were comparing her then-current appearance with an earlier period that outsiders regarded as healthier.

Grande said that earlier version was actually 'the unhealthiest version' of her body. Grande's representative announced in August that she would step back from visibility after completing the Eternal Sunshine Tour. The tour ended at London's O2 Arena on 1 September, and at a Chicago concert after the break became public, Grande told fans the decision was neither 'reactive' nor 'impulsive'.

She said she had planned it beforehand and described it as coming from a 'thoughtful and empowered place', while acknowledging that boundaries sometimes need to be set. The comments helped distinguish her decision from speculation that public reaction to her appearance had prompted the break.

The decision also affected her acting commitments. Grande withdrew from the planned 2027 London revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Sunday in the Park With George at the Barbican, while co-star Jonathan Bailey later also departed.

Producers subsequently announced that the planned 2027 production would no longer proceed as scheduled, with a possible revival in 2028.
