Smartphone manufacturer BlackBerry has come under fire after it was revealed that its customers were able to view illicit sex websites on internet and child porn.

BlackBerry has not been able to provide internet blocks which prevent users from viewing banned websites since summer, according to the Daily Mail.

The parents have to be cautious, as eight million teenagers in the UK use BlackBerry.

Telecom regulator Ofcom said he was 'very concerned' about the entire episode and was having a word with Canada's Research in Motion (RIM) and BlackBerry owners about resolving the issue.

However, every mobile phone operator in the UK has signed the code of practice which makes sure that the block on illegal sites are applied.

"By the end of 2011, we will have a solution in place that blocks access to these sites,"

A Child and Exploitation Online Protection Centre spokesman said, "All service providers have a responsibility to help safeguard the online environment and close down any opportunities for offenders. If they are not doing so this would be a matter of grave concern."
