Catherine Harding has now publicly responded after her 11-year-old daughter was left in tears during an encounter linked to Chappell Roan's security team.

The incident, which took place in São Paulo just hours before Roan's Lollapalooza performance, has sparked an online debate and questions about where responsibility lies when things go wrong between celebrities and fans.

What Happened at Lollapalooza

According to Harding's husband, Jorginho Frello's statement, on 21 March, the family was having breakfast when Roan walked past their table at the Palácio Tangará hotel.

Their daughter Ada, a fan, had made a handmade sign for the singer and briefly walked toward a nearby garden area to confirm it was her. She didn't approach, speak, or take a photo. She smiled, then returned to her seat.

Moments later, a security guard approached the table.

Jorginho described the interaction as aggressive. He said the guard scolded Harding and her daughter, accused Ada of being disrespectful, and warned that a formal complaint could be filed with the hotel. The situation escalated quickly, leaving Ada shaken and in tears.

The family later chose to skip Roan's performance that night, which had been planned as a birthday gift.

Chappell Roan's Response

Roan addressed the situation the next day through a video shared on Instagram Stories. She said she had no idea the interaction had taken place at the time.

'I didn't even see a woman and a child,' she said, adding that no one approached her directly. She also made it clear that the guard involved was not part of her personal security team.

Roan said she did not ask anyone to intervene and stressed that the child had done nothing wrong. She also apologised to Harding and her daughter for how the situation made them feel, calling it 'unfair' that assumptions were made without any action from the child.

Catherine Harding Breaks Her Silence

Shortly after Roan's statement, Harding posted her own video response, offering a more detailed account of what she witnessed.

She acknowledged Roan's version of events but said the man involved was clearly travelling with the singer's group, even if his exact role was unclear.

'I don't know if he was her personal security guard, but he was with her,' Harding said. 'That is all I know.' She questioned how someone in that position would feel empowered to act that way without some level of authority, while also leaving room for the possibility that Roan was unaware.

Harding was firm about one thing — her daughter did nothing to provoke the situation.

'She didn't have her phone, she didn't try to take a picture, she didn't try to approach her,' she said. 'She simply walked past, smiled, and came back.'

She described the guard as intimidating, saying his tone was harsh and that he criticised her parenting in front of her child. At one point, she said, he called Ada 'badly educated' and suggested they had crossed a line simply by being nearby.

Harding ended her response by saying that even if Roan wasn't directly responsible, public figures have a responsibility for how people around them behave.

At the same time, the internet did what it usually does. Some criticised Roan, saying the situation reflected poorly on her team and public image, especially given her past comments about fan behaviour and boundaries. Others defended her, pointing out that she wasn't present for the interaction and responded quickly once she became aware.
