Chelsea have long since been linked to Universidad de Chile winger Eduardo Vargas but the Premier League side are yet to bid for the player, according to the player's agent.

Vargas has been linked to a long list of top European clubs, including Barcelona, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Arsenal and Napoli, but Chelsea are believed to be heading the list of potential buyers.

The London side have already agreed to sell Nicholas Anelka to Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua and the 22-year-old, who has been likened to Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez, could be the perfect replacement for the veteran.

Blues' manager Andre Villas-Boas is looking to freshen up his ageing side and is expected to be active in the January transfer window, much like last season when they purchased Fernando Torres and David Luiz on deadline day.

However, Vargas' agent Mark Griffiths has confirmed no formal approach has been made for the player.

"He's definitely a player that is attracting a lot of interest," agent Mark Griffiths told Calcio Mercato."Has there been an official offer from Chelsea? Their chief scout in South America is Chilean, Jorge Alvial, so it is expected that the best players from his country will be linked with the Blues.

"However, we have not received an official offer from London. Maybe they will bid in the future, but to date there is nothing. That is the same for all the European teams.

"A valuation of €10 million I think it could be higher than that, maybe around €12 million-€14 million.

"Vargas as the next Sanchez? Comparisons have been made, but I think in some ways he is even better than the Barcelona player because he scores more goals."
