A man in China has set a new world record after covering himself in 109.05 kg of bees.

Gao Bingguo, a 55-year-old beekeeper from Tai'an City, Shandong Province, took on the challenge by having beekeepers pour the insects onto his body. Dozens of queen bees were first attached in order to attract more of the honey-making insects.

The video shows Gao later calmly smoking as thousands of bees crawl over his body.

The process, which took an hour, ended with Gao's entire body covered with over 100kg of bees.

The previous record was 83.5kg, a record set by another Chinese beekeeper, Zhang Wei, from north-west China's Shaanxi Province.

It is estimated that the 100kg of bees on Gao at that moment was roughly equivalent to 1.1 million bees.
