The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will host the biggest event in their history at UFC 205 when Eddie Alvarez will defend his lightweight title against Conor McGregor at Madison Square Garden on 12 November.

McGregor, who is the current featherweight champion, has an opportunity to become the first fighter to hold two titles, if he manages to beat the American on Saturday. The two have been seen exchanging harsh words prior to the fight, which continued during the pre-fight press conference.

Alvarez comes into this fight after defeating Rafael dos Anjos in his last fight. The 32-year-old's last defeat was against Donald Cerrone in July 2014 and holds an MMA record of 28-4 coming into the weekend's bout.

The Irishman, on the other hand, holds an MMA record of 20-3 entering this fight. He last suffered a defeat at the hands of Nate Diaz and bounced back in his previous fight by defeating Diaz in August.

McGregor's clash against Alvarez is not the only title fight at UFC 205. There will be two other fights taking place at Madison Square Garden as Tyron Woodley will defend his welterweight title against Stephen Thompson, while champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk will face Karolina Kowalkiewicz for the strawweight title on Saturday.
