Denise Black returns to Coronation Street ITV

Coronation Street is welcoming back another past favourite character as actress Denise Black heads back to the cobbles in a shock return, after a decade.

The 59-year-old actress – who most recently starred in Emmerdale – was spotted on the set of Corrie following her hints that she returning to Weatherfield over the past few months on her Twitter page.

Black – who will be resuming her role as Daniel's mother Denise Osbourne – was spotted filming scenes while holding a script in a flat in Davyhulme, Manchester, with Bill Roache (Ken Barlow).

Black appeared in the ITV prime-time soap from 1992 until 1996, briefly returning in 2007, where her character made a memorable pass at Ken Barlow (Bill Roache).

The accomplished TV star has also featured on The Bill, Casualty, New Tricks, Doc Martin and Bad Girls. She also joined rival soap Emmerdale in 2013 as the adoptive grandmother of Amy Wyatt, Joanie Wright. She was killed off via a shock heart attack in January which left viewers devastated.

Her return comes as viewers are still speculating who pushed Ken down the stairs. In tonight's (4 March) episode, Ken finally comes round from the attack, and he's shocked to hear he has been a victim of attempted murder.

He ends up calling the police to his bedside and confessing that his whole family all have motives for attacking him, leading to DS Mackinnon setting out to investigate the case.

One of the suspects is Adam Barlow, who has to confess that he never left the country, and is in a bit of a pickle when his girlfriend Rosie Webster refuses to be his alibi on the night in question.

Tracy could have been upset enough to push Ken down the stairs, since he refused to help her buy the premises of the flower shop. A forthcoming episode also reveals that Tracy finds Ken's will and, when she opens the envelope with Adam, both are shocked by the contents; it appears that the lion's share of the mysterious pile is going to Adam, Peter and Daniel, while she has been cut out entirely.

Coronation Street continues tomorrow (5 April) at 7.30pm on ITV.
