Four people have been left injured after a speeding car crashed into and derailed a tram in Croydon town centre in south London. Dramatic CCTV footage shows the silver car smash into the tram on Wellesey Road just after 11pm on Sunday 7 February.

The car seemed to be attempting to beat the traffic lights and rush past the tram, but instead collided with the vehicle at high speed, and rammed it off the tracks. A firefighter told the Croydon Guardian that the collision was "so great it lifted and moved the tram about 15 feet".

A man and a woman from the car were taken to St George's Hospital as a priority after the incident. Two others were treated for less serious injuries at Croydon University Hospital.

The CCTV footage was uploaded the next day to YouTube by Mark Ellis. Since then it has gone viral, and has been viewed over 10,000 times.
