Singer Demi Lovato has become the latest pop star to risk the wrath of Katy Perry's fans.

The Heart Attack hitmaker was flooded with criticism after premiering her new single Cool For The Summer, with many on social media accusing the singer of copying Perry's breakthrough single I Kissed A Girl.

Some also claimed the new single could also pass for Domino, the 2011 single released by British musician Jessie J, but Lovato, 22, has slammed both comparisons.

The Dark Horse singer tweeted:

Many believe the former Disney star has copied the subject matter of Perry's 2008 chart-topper, with lyrics including: "I'mma little curious too, Tell me if it's wrong... Got a taste for the cherry, I just need to take a bite."

Those unimpressed with the similarities between the singles hit back on Twitter:

The backlash against the Neon Lights singer comes after Perry's feud with Shake It Off singer Taylor Swift, who was accused of writing her hit single Bad Blood about her pop rival.

Lovato released her fourth studio album in May 2013, which became her highest-charting record to date in the UK reaching number 10, peaking at number three on the US Billboard 200 chart.

Teasing details of her forthcoming album, Lovato told MTV News on 5 June: "For this album, I'm making music that feels right to me.

"This time around, I was able to explore different sounds, and hone in on something that I'm really proud of. I'm inspired by something every day so those experiences will definitely be reflected on my next album."
