A driver who hit a pedestrian and got out of his car to help was immediately mowed down and tragically killed by another motorist.

A 28-year-old male Niva driver hit a pedestrian who was crossing the road "incorrectly" in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Friday (17 November), according to central Asia news agency AKIpress.

The man got out of his vehicle to help the pedestrian and was himself suddenly hit by another car. The man died at the scene, while the pedestrian who was initially hit by the Niva was taken to hospital suffering multiple injuries.

A criminal investigation into potential violation of traffic regulations resulting in death was launched, AKIpress said.

In a similarly ironic incident just one day earlier, a man accidentally shot himself and his wife in an American church while discussing the recent Sutherland Springs, Texas church shooting in which gunman Devin Patrick Kelley killed 26 people. The incident took place during a Thanksgiving dinner for church elder members at First United Methodist Church in Tellico Plains, Tennessee on Thursday (16 November). The two victims were taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
