Stefan de Vrij
de Vrij wanted by Everton.

Everton are the latest club to register an interest in Netherlands duo Bruno Martins Indi and Sefan de Vrij, according to reports in the Dutch press.

The Feyenoord duo have both been linked with following Louis van Gaal to Manchester United following the World Cup and will have attracted further interest after impressive performances in the 5-1 rout of Spain on Friday.

De Telegraaf suggest Roberto Martinez is keen to strike a deal to bring both players to Goodison Park to solidify his back line as the club prepare to mount a challenge on the top four next season.

Although young defender John Stones excelled when thrown into the first team while Phil Jagielka was unavailable through injury last season, the lack of any alternative cover will have been a worry for the Everton boss.

And while 37-year-old Sylvain Distin remains an immovable object in the heart of the Toffees' defence, his advancing years suggest Martinez will be on the lookout for a long term replacement sooner rather than later.

United had been linked with a moves for the 22-year-old duo of Vrij and Martins Indi but with the club reportedly on the verge of striking a deal for Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen, it would appear van Gaal is seeking to bring a more experienced defensive option to Old Trafford.

De Vrij, who scored Netherlands' third goal against world champions Spain last week, has already seen offers from Lazio rejected by Feyenoord but believes he will still leave the Dutch club this summer.

"The chances are that I will leave, I can probably confirm this," the defender said last month." I am with the Dutch national team so I don't know the exact details."

Lazio saw an opening bid of €5m rejected for De Vrij last month.
