A young rugby player hanged himself after being falsely accused of rape, an inquest heard.

Luke King, 23, was accused of the sex crime four years ago. He struggled with depression and drugs before committing suicide by hanging himself, in May.

Local press reported an inquest heard his death was "sudden" after he appeared to be turning around his life by playing for Kells rugby club and taking on physical challenges.

Sister Megan King revealed her brother suffered "dark moments" in the aftermath of the accusation and the court heard he turned to drugs to "block things out."
