'His GF Is Literally MAGA': Heated Rivalry's Hudson Williams Faces Backlash Over Alleged Homophobic Jokes and Secret MAGA Ties
Videos of him acting in a certain way have been labelled by users as a mockery of the gay community

Actor Hudson Williams, one of the breakout stars of the queer sports drama Heated Rivalry, is facing a sudden and intense wave of online backlash after fan speculation about his personal life spiralled into broader allegations involving politics, representation, and past online behaviour.
A parody account post claiming Williams 'constantly mock[s] the way gay people speak' — viewed more than 2.5 million times — triggered thousands of quote posts and replies accusing the actor of queerbaiting, homophobia, and secretly benefiting from progressive fandom while holding opposing values off-screen.
The Girlfriend Reveal That Sparked the Firestorm
The situation began when celebrity gossip account Deuxmoi posted a blind item suggesting that Williams, who plays openly gay hockey player Shane Hollander on Heated Rivalry, has a girlfriend.
Fans quickly identified the woman as Katelyn (also spelt Caitlin), a tattoo artist, effectively confirming the rumour.

Williams appeared to acknowledge the post by commenting directly on Deuxmoi's Instagram, writing, 'You know what, I've grown quite unfond of you deuxmoi.' While the comment addressed the invasion of privacy, it also confirmed he was aware of and frustrated by the speculation.
For a subset of fans, the reveal disrupted long-standing parasocial narratives, including the popular 'shipping' of Williams with his co-star Connor Storrie, who plays Ilya. The backlash intensified almost immediately.
Allegations of 'MAGA Ties' Surface Online
After the girlfriend's identity circulated, fans began combing through her social media history and that of her family members. Screenshots allegedly showing likes on conservative or pro-Trump content began circulating, accompanied by claims that Williams was 'secretly MAGA-adjacent.'

No public statements from Katelyn or Williams confirm these political affiliations. Nonetheless, within online discourse, the allegations have been framed as a moral issue, particularly because Heated Rivalry has a predominantly LGBTQ+ and progressive fanbase.
The allegation that Williams' rumoured partner is possibly MAGA gained traction, with critics arguing that dating someone with conservative views undermines Williams' credibility as a queer character on screen, despite no evidence that Williams himself holds those views.
Did Hudson Make Homophobic Jokes?
Adding to the confusion, separate accusations emerged suggesting Williams had made homophobic jokes in the past. These claims appear to stem from two overlapping sources.
One involves confusion with another reality TV personality also named Hudson, whose old homophobic tweets recently resurfaced. The second centres on Williams' personal Letterboxd account, which fans uncovered and began scrutinising for sarcastic or 'edgy' humour.

Videos of him acting in a certain way have been labelled by users as a mockery of the gay community.
While some fans have labelled past snarky comments as homophobic in hindsight, no verified examples of explicitly anti-LGBTQ+ statements from Williams have been substantiated.
Why the Backlash Has Been So Intense
Williams' role in Heated Rivalry placed him at the centre of what fans often describe as a 'queer saviour' narrative. Although he has never publicly labelled his own sexuality, his close off-screen chemistry with Storrie and the show's intimate press tour fueled assumptions that he was queer himself.
However, for some fans, the revelation of a girlfriend — especially one perceived as politically conservative — felt like a betrayal. Meanwhile, supporters of Williams counter that he is an actor, not a spokesperson, and that expectations placed on him reflect unhealthy parasocial dynamics rather than wrongdoing.
As of now, Williams has not addressed the political allegations or the claims about past jokes.
