England v Italy

An Italian man has been charged with murdering his wife and two children before heading to a local bar to watch Brazil World Cup match England v Italy with his friends.

Carlo Lissi, 31, from the northern Italian town of Motta Visconti, near Milan, has been charged with triple murder for the brutal killing of his wife Cristina Omes, 38, and their two children, 5-year-old Giulia and Gabriele of 20 months.

He confessed to police that he stabbed his family and then joined his friends to watch the football game on Saturday night, after throwing the knife in a drain, according to La Repubblica newspaper.

At the bar, the man did not show any sign that he had just murdered his family but was reportedly "moved by the goals of Marchisio and Balotelli", according to his friends.

After confessing to the crime, Lissi told police he wants "the maximum sentence", which in Italy is life in prison.

The motive behind the triple homicide is still unclear. Unconfirmed reports say that the man had attempted to make sexual advances on a colleague but was firmly rejected.
