James Van Der Beek's family finances have become a growing concern in the days following the actor's death, with a newly launched fundraiser suggesting his widow and six children may be facing an uncertain road ahead. The appeal, created by close friends, hints at the emotional toll of his illness as well as the financial strain it left behind.

According to the fundraiser, the cost of the actor's long battle with cancer has drained the family's resources, leaving Kimberly Van Der Beek and their children struggling to keep up with everyday expenses.

Supporters say the goal is to help the family remain in their home and maintain stability during an already devastating time.

While tributes to the late actor continue to pour in, the fundraiser offers a more personal glimpse into the challenges his loved ones now face behind the scenes.

Fundraiser Points To Financial Difficulties

The GoFundMe, set up shortly after Van Der Beek's death, states that the family's finances were heavily impacted by medical bills and the prolonged fight against cancer.

'In the wake of this loss, Kimberly and the children are facing an uncertain future. The costs of James's medical care and the extended fight against cancer have left the family out of funds,' the description read.

It adds that the family is working to stay in their home and keep the children's education on track during what it calls an 'incredibly difficult time.' Donations, organisers say, will go toward essential living costs, household bills and school expenses.

'Every donation, no matter the size, will help Kimberly and her family find hope and security as they rebuild their lives,' the post continued.

James and Kimberly Van Der Beek shared six children: daughters Olivia, Annabel, Emilia and Gwendolyn, and sons Joshua and Jeremiah, whose ages range from 15 to 4.

Actor's Final Months After Cancer Diagnosis

Van Der Beek died on Wednesday 11 February, from complications related to Stage III colorectal cancer. His wife confirmed the news in a heartfelt message shared on Instagram.

'Our beloved James David Van Der Beek passed peacefully this morning,' Kimberly wrote. 'He met his final days with courage, faith, and grace. There is much to share regarding his wishes, love for humanity and the sacredness of time. Those days will come. For now we ask for peaceful privacy as we grieve our loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend.'

The actor had first been diagnosed in August 2023 but kept the news private until November 2024, when he spoke about it publicly. At the time, he said he was dealing with the illness with the support of his family.

'I have colorectal cancer,' he revealed. 'I've been privately dealing with this diagnosis and have been taking steps to resolve it, with the support of my incredible family.'

Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, he said there was 'reason for optimism' and that he was 'feeling good.'

In a May 2023 interview, Van Der Beek reflected on life as a father of six, calling the experience 'humbling' and unpredictable.

'When you think you've got it down, you get one that throws a curveball at you,' he said, adding that the greatest joy was watching his children look after one another. 'The moment I see them looking after their baby brother, I really feel like, "Oh man, for whatever I've done wrong, I'm doing something right here."'

As the family grieves, friends and supporters say the fundraiser is intended to ease some of the practical burdens, allowing them to focus on healing in the months ahead.
