Major League Baseball star Jose Fernandez's pregnant girlfriend Maria Arias was spotted for the first time since the tragic death of the baseball player – who was killed in a boat crash on 25 September – at his memorial service in Miami, Florida on Wednesday (28 September).

The 24-year-old appeared devastated as she joined her late partner's Miami Marlins teammates to bid farewell at the service.

According to the Daily Mail, Arias, who is around four months pregnant with the baby of the late athlete, attended the public memorial service with family and friends at St Brendan's Catholic Church. Hundreds of fans had also gathered at the Miami church to get a last glimpse of Fernandez.

Before the memorial service commenced, mourners paid tributes to the Cuban-American baseball player by walking along with the hearse that carried his casket through Marlins Park. Several Marlins officials were also present during the procession.

Meanwhile, Fernandez's previous girlfriend Carla Mendoza shared her thoughts over his untimely demise.

Mendoza's mother Maria Lourdes Reyes also spoke about her daughter's relationship with Fernandez and said, "They started talking when they saw one another at the stadium and they started dating." Reyes stated that they were planning to get married in November this year, but due to differences between them, they parted ways in April.

Nonetheless, Fernandez's ex-girlfriend shared some emotional thoughts after his death and offered support to his pregnant girlfriend.

I'm so glad you came into my life. I'm ready for where this journey is gonna take us together. #familyfirst

"Jose never went one moment without knowing how much support and love he had from those close to him. My heart goes out to Maria, as she is expecting his child. Please honor Jose's memory by respecting his daughter and her mother as I'm sure this is all too painful for her as well," she shared on Instagram.
