Katie Thurston has revealed she underwent chin liposuction while continuing her publicly documented stage 4 breast cancer journey, saying she chose the cosmetic procedure after 'so many required medical surgeries'.

The 35-year-old former Bachelorette lead posted recovery photographs on Instagram Stories on Tuesday, 8 September, including an image showing her face wrapped in a compression bandage.

Thurston presented chin lipo as a personal decision rather than part of her cancer care. Her post placed an elective cosmetic procedure alongside the operations and medical investigations she has publicly linked to her illness.

She said she had not previously had Botox or fillers and was sharing the update in the interests of transparency. The disclosure included blunt details of her early recovery, answering the apparent question raised by the juxtaposition: the procedure was something she said she chose 'for myself'.

Katie Thurston Shares Chin Lipo Recovery

Thurston wrote over one recovery photograph: 'After so many required medical surgeries, I decided to do one for myself.' She added: 'I'm all about transparency. Never had Botox. Never had filler. But today I did in fact have chin lipo.'

The reality television star also shared an image of Ritz crackers and a nutritional drink while describing discomfort after the procedure. 'Breakfast at 6:40AM because I can't open my mouth wider, swallowing sucks, I want to take pain meds but not on an empty stomach,' she wrote.

Thurston later posted a photograph with her dog Charlie, captioning it: 'My healer.' In a separate message, she told followers: 'I'll answer all your questions when I can, but for now, I'm down for the count.'

Her posts did not present chin liposuction as treatment for breast cancer or as a procedure recommended by her medical team. Thurston disclosed the procedure herself while sharing wider updates about her health.

Stage 4 Breast Cancer Background

Thurston publicly announced a stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis in February 2025, months after becoming engaged to comedian Jeff Arcuri. She later said doctors confirmed that the cancer had spread to her liver, resulting in a stage 4 diagnosis.

She and Arcuri married in an intimate backyard ceremony at their home on 22 March 2025 after bringing forward their wedding as she prepared to begin treatment. Thurston subsequently underwent a double mastectomy in April.

In July 2026, Thurston said doctors had recommended a liver biopsy while they investigated elevated liver enzyme levels. She had also said she was waiting before proceeding with the biopsy, so it should not be assumed that it has since taken place.

Thurston later said scans showed no evidence of disease in her liver. That update does not mean she is cancer-free, and she continues to describe her diagnosis as stage 4 breast cancer.

IVF Plans with Jeff Arcuri

Thurston and Arcuri started IVF before her cancer treatment, and Arcuri said on Kaitlyn Bristowe's Off the Vine podcast in July that they had two embryos. He said the couple were waiting before taking the next step in their family plans.

Arcuri attributed the delay in part to renovation work on their home.

'We got a house that's being renovated. It's hit a lot of hiccups,' he said, adding that a project initially expected to take four months had moved to an 18-month timeframe.

Thurston and Arcuri have previously discussed surrogacy in the context of cancer treatment and its potential effects on her ability to carry a pregnancy.

Thurston has said that Arcuri helped her focus on family milestones they could still experience together, including a baby shower and receiving pregnancy news.

Why Katie Thurston's Post Drew Attention

The post attracted interest because Thurston directly contrasted medically necessary procedures with a cosmetic choice that she said was her own. Her recovery images and description of difficulty eating set out the immediate aftermath without suggesting the procedure had any cancer-related medical purpose.

Thurston has not said when she plans to answer followers' questions about the chin lipo. Her latest posts centred on short-term recovery and did not announce any change to her ongoing cancer treatment or monitoring.
