Kid Rock Reveals Why Eminem Swapped '7 Sins' for 'Heal My Faith' as Lil Wayne Steps In
Kid Rock said hearing the finished mix of 'Heal My Faith' gave him chills and brought him to tears

Kid Rock has explained why Eminem switched his contribution from '7 Sins' to 'Heal My Faith' on his upcoming album Halfway 2 Jesus, as Lil Wayne joined the project. The revised tracklist, shared on 14 October, credits Eminem on 'Heal My Faith' and Wayne on '7 Sins'. The updated credits clarify each artist's role. According to Rock's account to the Detroit Free Press, the change came about 48 hours before the final mastered album was due to be submitted to streaming services. The release is scheduled for 17 October 2026.
How Eminem's Original Contribution Came About
The story began in 2025, when Rock approached Eminem for help with 'Heal My Faith'. Rock had hit a creative block, and Eminem sent verses reflecting on their shared Detroit history and Rock's early support. The exchange developed into a second contribution when Eminem later heard more of the album.
Months later, Eminem heard drafts of Rock's album at his studio and contributed to '7 Sins'. The pair initially chose that track for their collaboration, leaving 'Heal My Faith' on the shelf. Rock reportedly joked that releasing two songs together might make people think they were dating, so they initially opted for one collaboration.
Why Eminem Switched To 'Heal My Faith'
After the original tracklist was announced on 1 October, Eminem contacted Rock and asked when he had last listened to 'Heal My Faith'. Rock acknowledged that it had been some time, and Eminem suggested they switch the songs, according to reports.
Rock later said the finished mix gave him chills and brought him to tears. Journalists at a listening session reported that the track features multiple Eminem verses, metal guitar flourishes and church bells. The explanation for the switch remains Rock's account rather than a separate public statement from Eminem.
Lil Wayne Steps in for '7 Sins'
The switch left Rock needing a replacement for Eminem's contribution to '7 Sins'. He reportedly contacted Lil Wayne and Chuck D but initially received no response. Rock considered recording the part himself, but felt his performance would not compare favourably with Eminem's intricate rhymes.
Wayne eventually messaged Rock on 12 October and agreed to record a rap interlude that day, giving Rock a replacement contribution shortly before the deadline. The revised tracklist places '7 Sins' third and 'Heal My Faith' fifth, and Rock confirmed on 14 October that the album was finished.
Political Differences Fuel Reaction to the Collaboration
The collaboration attracted scrutiny because Rock supports Donald Trump, while Eminem has publicly criticised the US president. When Rock announced Eminem's appearance on '7 Sins' on 1 October, some fans questioned the pairing. Complex reported that one commenter called the announcement 'FAKE', while another questioned why Eminem would work with a conservative artist whose political views differed from his own.
Rock addressed the criticism by framing the collaboration as two longtime friends working together despite political differences. However, the reported reason for moving Eminem from '7 Sins' to 'Heal My Faith' was that Eminem revisited the earlier recording and suggested switching songs, according to Rock's account. The available reporting does not establish that political backlash caused the change. The album is due on 17 October.
