Mia Goth's viral 'My Ex Is My Biggest Fan' photograph was AI-generated, her representative confirmed, after the image circulated online following the actress's divorce filing from Shia LaBeouf. The picture appeared to show the Pearl star wearing a T-shirt bearing the pointed message, prompting speculation that she was addressing her estranged husband. However, Goth does not use social media, and her representative criticised Instagram for allowing the verified fan account that shared the image to remain online.

Mia Goth's Representative Criticises Instagram Over AI Image

According to The Verge on 13 October, Goth's representative Christine Tripicchio confirmed the image was AI-generated and said the actress's team had repeatedly complained to Instagram about the account.

'Mia Goth does not have ownership of, nor does she engage in social media on any platform. We have filed multiple complaints with Instagram to remove the verified fan account which continues to post counterfeit, AI images of Mia Goth', Tripicchio told The Verge in an email.

She also questioned Instagram's decision to award the account a verification badge.

'The fact that this fan account meets Instagram's criteria to qualify for a "blue check" is disconcerting on a fundamental level. Beyond that, it is incomprehensible that Instagram evidently prioritizes the dissemination of forged and manipulated images over the protection and integrity of a public figure's likeness', she said.

The criticism highlighted concerns about verification badges lending credibility to fabricated celebrity content.

Verified Goth Fan Account Had More Than One Million Followers

The Instagram page used the handle @miagoth_ and the name 'Mia Goth | Fan Page'. It had more than one million followers, according to reports, and its post attracted hundreds of thousands of likes.

The photograph was paired with Beyoncé's 'Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)', reinforcing the impression that Goth was making a pointed statement about her relationship. However, the image was not an authentic post from the actress.

The Verge reported that entertainment publications including People and OK! initially covered the photograph as though it were genuine. Although the account was labelled as a fan page, its blue verification badge may have contributed to confusion.

Meta spokesperson Alex Dziedzan subsequently confirmed to The Verge that the account had been removed for impersonating a public figure.

Goth's Representative Confirms She Is Not on Social Media

Goth's representative had previously clarified her social media status in a statement to Just Jared on 9 October.

'Mia Goth is not active on any social media accounts, including Instagram', the representative said.

The statement established that the actress had not posted the photograph herself. The T-shirt's wording therefore cannot be treated as evidence of Goth's feelings towards LaBeouf or a personal response to their separation.

Goth Filed for Divorce From LaBeouf on 6 October

The controversy followed Goth's divorce filing against LaBeouf in Los Angeles on 6 October 2026, according to the Associated Press and the Los Angeles Times. The petition cited 'irreconcilable differences' and listed 28 July 2025 as the couple's separation date.

Goth and LaBeouf married in 2016 and share a daughter born in March 2022. The divorce filing renewed public interest in their relationship, providing the context in which the fabricated photograph gained attention.

However, the AI-generated image is not evidence of Goth's feelings towards LaBeouf or a statement from her about their separation.
