Are Kristi Noem and Bryon Noem Still Together? 'ICE Barbie' Breaks Silence on Corey Lewandowski Affair Rumours
In a Washington hearing room, Kristi Noem's long marriage and hardline portfolio collided with a single unanswered question she still refuses to put to rest.

Kristi Noem was forced to confront the most personal question of her political life in Washington on Wednesday, when a US congresswoman directly asked whether she had slept with her top adviser Corey Lewandowski, minutes after Noem's husband, Bryon Noem, slipped out of the hearing room.
The confrontation came after months of speculation about Kristi Noem's relationship with Lewandowski, a longtime Donald Trump ally who now serves as a special government employee at the Department of Homeland Security. Rumours of an affair have dogged the pair for years. Both are married, both have publicly rejected the claims, and the secretary has previously branded the accusations a 'disgusting lie.' None of the allegations has been proven, and there is no independent confirmation of any affair, so the claims should still be treated with a grain of salt.
The latest confrontation unfolded before the House Judiciary Committee, where Noem was already facing sharp questioning about a deadly immigration operation in Minneapolis. Federal officers involved in a DHS crackdown in the city shot and killed two protesters, an episode that has intensified scrutiny of the department's tactics and Noem's judgment as Secretary of Homeland Security.
In that tense setting, California Democrat Sydney Kamlager-Dove switched from policy to deeply personal territory.
'At any time during your tenure as director of the Department of Homeland Security, have you had sexual relations with Corey Lewandowski?' she asked. Noem did not respond with the simple denial her critics were expecting.
'Mr Chairman I am shocked we are going down and peddling tabloid garbage today at this committee,' she replied, refusing to say yes or no. Her husband, Bryon, who had been seated just behind her earlier in the hearing, had already left to catch a flight and was not there to hear the question.
Kristi Noem, Bryon Noem And A Marriage Under The Microscope
For context, Kristi Noem and Bryon Noem's partnership predates her high-profile political career by decades. The couple grew up on farms in Hamlin County, South Dakota, attended the same high school, and started dating when she was a junior and he was a college freshman. They married on 23 May 1992, when Kristi was 20 and still at Northern State University, and went on to have three children together: Kassidy, Kennedy, and Booker.
Their early years were spent running Kristi's family farm and ranch after the sudden death of her father, Ronald Arnold, in a grain-bin accident in 1994. Kristi left university to help save the business. Bryon worked alongside her and the rest of the family, raising cattle and crops before branching into a hunting lodge and restaurant.
Bryon later moved into insurance, eventually buying and rebranding a local agency as Noem Insurance, which he still runs in South Dakota. Throughout Kristi Noem's rise from local politics to Congress, then the Trump Cabinet, he has generally stayed out of the limelight, appearing mainly at key hearings, inaugurations, and family events.
That relative privacy has been shattered by the swirl of stories about his wife and Lewandowski. A recent investigation by The Wall Street Journal reported that what it called the 'close relationship' between Kristi Noem and Lewandowski had already made Trump and senior advisers uncomfortable. According to that reporting, the former president rejected the idea of Lewandowski serving as her chief of staff because of reports of a romantic relationship, a claim that Noem and Lewandowski have denied. Those details cannot be independently verified here and should not be treated as fact.
Kristi Noem's Testy Exchange On Corey Lewandowski
Back in the hearing room on Wednesday, Kamlager-Dove refused to let Noem's dismissal end the matter. She told the secretary it was 'ok for you to be offended by the question,' but insisted it was a legitimate concern if 'you or any federal official is sleeping with their subordinate.'
'You should be wanting to answer that question because it is not about your sex life, it is about your judgement,' the congresswoman said.
Noem held the line she had chosen. 'It is garbage,' she responded, repeating her view that the inquiry was beneath the committee.
Kamlager-Dove then laid out her broader case against Lewandowski himself, describing what she called his 'decades-long record' that includes allegations of physical battery, sexual harassment, illegal lobbying for a Venezuelan oil company and bringing a loaded gun into a federal building. 'Trump knows that this guy is shady,' she said, offering a blunt character assessment that goes well beyond anything in official filings.
Lewandowski and Noem have both denied the various claims about their private lives. There is, at this stage, no documentary evidence or sworn testimony confirming an affair, and a Department of Homeland Security spokesperson previously told The Wall Street Journal that Noem's move into a government-owned waterfront house on a Washington military base was for security reasons, adding that she pays rent.
That relocation itself had become part of the intrigue after tabloid photos reportedly showed Lewandowski 'going back and forth between his apartment and Noem's across the street' before she moved. The Journal said those images helped revive the affair rumours among Trumpworld insiders. Again, those accounts are based on unnamed sources and have not been corroborated in public court records.
Behind The Politics, A Long Shared History
Away from Washington drama, the portrait of Kristi and Bryon Noem is of a couple bound by long, sometimes harsh, shared experience. After the farm years, Bryon built his insurance business while Kristi pursued elected office and later joined Trump's Cabinet as Secretary of Homeland Security in 2025. They have seen both daughters marry, with Bryon walking Kassidy and Kennedy down the aisle, and have welcomed four grandchildren between them.
Since 2025, however, Noem's work has drawn intense public scrutiny. The Department of Homeland Security has been central to Trump's controversial mass deportation programme, and the deadly 2026 operation in Minneapolis, in which two US citizens, Renée Good and Alex Pretti, were killed by federal agents during 'Operation Metro Surge,' has added a lethal edge to questions over her decisions.
Whether the marriage between Kristi Noem and Bryon Noem can remain insulated from the political storm, or whether it is being reshaped by it, is something only they can truly know. For now, their three-decade partnership is being tested in the harshest possible spotlight, with cameras trained not just on what the homeland security secretary does in office, but on what she refuses to say about her private life.
