LG X Screen and LG X Cam
The all new LG X series unveiled by the company as a new mid-range series LG

LG has launched two new smartphones, the X Cam and X Screen, as part of its new mid-range X series ahead of the much awaited flagship LG G5 launch at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The handsets will hit key markets in Asia, Europe and Latin America starting March but MWC 2016 visitors can catch a glimpse of the new X series models from February 22-25.

Most of the spotlight has been on the company's flagship LG G5 this year but the latest launch shows that the company acknowledges the competitive budget smartphone market and wants a bigger share of the pie. LG has never really been a preferable pick for smartphone buyers other than its premium G series range. A mid-range series launch like this indicates the company is experimenting with a fresh strategy for its mobile division.

"Everyone has a favourite smartphone feature and at LG, we think there's room for devices that do one thing very well and that customers shouldn't have to pay for features that they don't want. At the end of the day, we're committed to offering consumers more choices," said Juno Cho, president and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company.

While the X Cam features a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) in-cell display, the X Screen sports a 4.93-inch HD main display as well as a 1.76-inch LCD (520 x 80) secondary display, similar to LG's V10 model . The X Cam will run on a 1.14GHz octa-core processor with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of inbuilt storage while the X Screen will be powered by a 1.2GHz quad-core processor with the same RAM and storage capacities as the X Cam.

While both the models will sport a 13 MP rear camera and an 8 MP front cam, the X Cam will sport an additional 5 MP camera at the back. Both the devices will be pre-installed with the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.

The most important element, the pricing, however, has not been revealed. Once the pricing is set, it will help consumers decide if they are ready for yet another mid-range model among a plethora of options.
