KEY POINTS

  • Catalans host Sevilla before weekend trip to Malaga.
  • Luis Enrique's side remain second in La Liga, two points behind Real Madrid.

Lionel Messi and Gerard Pique are ready to return to action when Sevilla visit Barcelona on Wednesday night (5 April) after the duo missed the weekend's 4-1 win over Granada. However, Rafinha Alcantara, Arda Turan and long-term casualty Aleix Vidal remain on the sidelines ahead of another crucial game in the battle with Real Madrid for La Liga.

Messi was unavailable to face Granada due to suspension while Luis Enrique decided to leave the Spanish international out of his squad in order to have him fresh ahead of the busy month of April, which includes a visit to Real Madrid on 23 April and the two legs of the Champions League quarter-final against Juventus.

Turan and Vidal also missed the weekend encounter due to injury while Rafinha joined them on the Barcelona treatment table after being forced off early in the game with a knee issue.

The absences of Turan and Rafina leave a big gap in midfield but the Barcelona manager will at least be able to rely on the MSN attacking trident form by Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar against the fourth-placed outfit.

Meanwhile, third keeper Jordi Masip and Jeremy Mathieu have also been ruled out due to technical reasons while young Carles Aleña continues in the squad after he made his La Liga debut at the weekend.

Andres Iniesta, who started on the bench against Granada, should be back in Luis Enrique's starting line-up to set the pace in the middle of the park.

Barcelona are currently sit second in the table, two points behind Real Madrid, who still have one game in hand.

However, a win over Sevilla will help Barcelona to put more pressure on the leaders as Real Madrid's corresponding fixture with Leganes will be the last game of the day.

Meanwhile, Jorge Sampaoli's side arrive to the Nou Camp in arguably their worst form of the campaign as they struggle to recover from the disappointment of the elimination to Leicester City in the Champions League last 16.

They have failed to win a La Liga game in their last four matches and their recent draw with Sporting Gijon saw Atletico Madrid overtake them in the table.
